I very rarely have dishes in the sink. If I do it's only a couple, and it's because the dishwasher is either running or has very recently been run and hasn't been emptied yet.

I said "Sure, why not?" Then I remembered the horribly toxic stuff with which I have washed engine parts in years past. So consider this a qualifier to my previous response, something like, "Sure, why not? (Assuming you're not using solvent!)"

Now, as someone who preps a fair bit of food in my kitchen, I'd use the basement/garage/laundry room sink to wash engine parts. It's also bigger. I'm guessing you don't have one?

Oh, wandered over from [info]patrissimo's journal. Ta.

I live in a loft-- my choices are kitchen or bathroom. But I'm pretty much talking about, "put the front fender in the sink and scrub it with soap and water" cleaning.

I'm assuming it doesn't fit in the dishwasher?

Yes if you wash them with water/detergent; no if you are soaking things in gasoline.

I have never had my own dishwasher, so our kitchen sink is very familiar with all the dishes, pots, pans and silverware.

Plus there's no way I could get that scooter up the stairs without some help.

Also, the drains of the bathtub and the kitchen sink both go to the same place and it has backed up a number of times in the past.

I am not the type to take an automobile or motorcycle apart, but if I would do so, I think I would do so outside--on the sidewalk, having no proper yard-- and use buckets or bins for cleaning the pieces and parts.
