This is what I grabbed to drink at lunch today. I'd never heard of kombucha before, but it looked like some sort of raspberry tea drink. How bad could it be?

Very! It was nasty. Ick. Yuck. If you want to see something really gross, do a google image search on kombucha.

Awesome.

That reminds me of something else I saw on Good Eats, but I can't remember what. Was it some type of alcoholic beverage, or was it something else? I wish I could remember.

Oh! I think it was on the vinegar episode: Mother of vinegar.

I bought two bottles of something containing this berry.

It has a yellow oily film over the purpleness of its juice, and tastes like a combination of prunes and white truffles. It can be endured very cold if you shout obscenities in Klingonaase afterwards.

This IS what they told Worf was prune juice.

Hm. Apparently I was fooled by a similarity in the name, what I'm thinking of is a brazilian berry, quite nasty.

This appears to be a product of careful rotting, like bread, cheese, and politics.

Gawd. I have now spent an hour in "internet research" on kombucha, and was amazed to find
http://www.kombuchaustralia.com/benefits.html

I wonder if I reverse the aging process enough, I'll turn into a foetus.

Really, the only fermenting I've ever done or want to do is turn ginger into ginger beer.

Kombucha Japanese for Kombu Tea. Kombu is a seaweed most often used for making traditional soup stock called Dashi. It can be used for other things, like candy, snack and even tea. Mostly the ones who enjoy such things are old ladies, health nuts and Japanophiles. I heart kombu.

What you bought looks to be a misguided attempt to break into a new market with this seaweed. Thank you for your review, I will be sure to avoid it.
