Patti - Speaking of music

| Last week during a poker tournament a few of us were talking about godawful music, and we kept taunting each other by singing things that were horrific and yet got stuck in your head when you heard them. After that I was inspired to put together a compilation CD of the worst pop songs I could think of. After paring the list, I wound up with:
Afternoon Delight Karma Chameleon Feelings Muskrat Love Kung Fu Fighting You Light Up My Life My Sharona Very Strange Medley (Barry Manilow doing jingles) Macarthur Park Maneater Delta Dawn Seasons in the Sun Hooked on Tchaikovsky I Got You Babe Barbie Girl It's A Small World It's A Small World (Techno remix) Convoy Run Joey Run One Tin Soldier Wildfire Cherokee Nation
We listened to the whole thing on the drive to Reno. | comments: Leave a comment |
| | It was a toss-up between that and Run Joey Run. I wound up tossing a coin. Really! | | (Reply) (Parent) (Thread) |

| Whatever happened to 'Timothy'???
As in 'Trapped in a mine, no food to eat...' | | (Reply) (Parent) (Thread) |
| LOL, too funny.
I like some of the songs on that list, but honestly, I can't dispute any of the choices. :-)

| A bit of self torture sitting through those tunes, except for Macarthur Park. Great song. Certainly the hit version sung by Richard Harris is painful due to his complete inability to sing, but...
About a decade ago anyone who called my house was greeted by my attempt to sing Macarthur Park on the answering machine. | | (Reply) (Thread) |

| You, sir, are a very sick person.
I think you should be forced to give a dramatic reading of the lyrics. | | (Reply) (Parent) (Thread) |

| I will gladly leave a recitation of Macarthur Park on your answering machine.
Last time I was in Vegas Buddy Greco was performing free in the casino (not the showroom) of (if memory serves) The Sands. He played a great version of Macarthur Park. His trio played it like a fusion song. It was crazy. I was very happy. | | (Reply) (Parent) (Thread) |

| | It is sad but true that I don't own an answering machine. Perhaps you could do a webcast? | | (Reply) (Parent) (Thread) |
| | If you want to cure yourself of the One Tin Soldier and Seasons in the Sun affliction, listen to the covers of those songs by, Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies (punk cover band - lead singer is a shipping clerk from Fat Wreck Chords). As for Kung Foo Fighting, Carl Douglas is the man - what's wrong with that song? | | (Reply) (Thread) |
| oh man do I want a copy of that
now, if only you could use your powers for good, instead of evil | | (Reply) (Thread) |
| Your copy has been made. I still have boots for Heath, too. (Oh! Do tell him Happy Birthday for me.)
So, from the "no shit, I'm not making this up" department... I learned today that one of the guys that I regularly play poker with used to be the guitarist for Paul Revere and the Raiders.
He got a big laugh out of the titles on the CD I created.
Evil? Me? | | (Reply) (Parent) (Thread) |
| The fact that you HAD all those songs must mean something.
Oh wait, I have them all too.
Don't dis Afternoon Delight. The Starlight Vocal Group won "Best New Artist" that year beating our Elvis Costello. Can you believe that? Winning that award must be a curse. Those people always seem to turn into one-hit wonders.

| How could you not include Toni Basil - Hey Mickey?
| | (Reply) (Thread) |
| | It was a toss-up between Hey Mickey and My Sharona, and the latter won. | | (Reply) (Parent) (Thread) |
| I like a large portion of those songs, actually.
And I'm completely and utterly immune to song viruses, and enjoy inflicting Seasons in the Sun on people.
Cause, you know, sadist. | | (Reply) (Thread) |
| | Nice list I think I would have to say I actually like "Kung Fu Fighting". So how did you do up in Reno? | | (Reply) (Thread) |
| I concur with Adam (as usual). Kung Fu Fighting does not belong on the disc.
Any chance of a copy making it to Florida? Other than the one glaring error it sounds delicious.
| | (Reply) (Parent) (Thread) |
| Works for me.
Of course Randy informs me that at least 10% of the last present remains. :)
