I just found out that Jim Steinman wrote Total Eclipse of the Heart.

My world has been shattered.

Edit: It's even worse than I thought: he also wrote Making Love Out Of Nothing At All.

Oh, I dunno. That seems totally fitting. Steinman is a master of cheese. (Wow, the photo of him from 1980 on Wikipedia is totally cute, too.)

"Goddammit, Daddy! You know I love you /
But you've got a Hell of a lot to learn /
About Rock and Roll!"

I guess I think of him more as theatrical (which I love) than cheesy (which I rarely do.) It's a fine line, I guess. I guess it's just hard for me to think of A Kiss Is A Terrible Thing To Waste and Total Ecilpse Of The Heart coming from the same brain.

I think it's just that you prefer swiss to cheddar.

I like both.

Wait - we're talking about actual cheese, now, right?

That actually makes a hell of a lot of sense. I can hear Meatloaf singing both of those songs, easy.

The man who wrote "Paradise by the Dashboard Light," "Bat out of Hell," and the deathless "I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)," of course.

I remember counting the number of "I would do anything for love" when the song was current, but it's been so long that I forget what the total was now.

What a coincidence -- I just had that song playing on YouTube.

I didn't know that Jim Steinman wrote "Total Eclipse of the Heart" but it doesn't sound totally implausible to me.
