Photo_061808_001.jpgI had a motorcycle accident on the way to work today, about a block from my house. This time it was actually at speed. I turned the corner from 3rd Street onto Jackson, and just as I was finishing the turn someone pulled out of a parallel parking space right in front of me. I narrowly avoided hitting him, but in the process of doing so went sliding down the street.

I immediately jumped up and flagged the car down; he stopped.

There were witnesses. Between the witnesses and the guy who pulled out, the bike was righted and moved to the side of the road. I got a witness phone number and exchanged information with him. He felt really horrible about it.

I'm mostly OK. My left knee is scraped up (through pants, and the pants are OK.) I have a bruise on my left hand from where I hit the ground. I have a tiny headache, and I'm a little bit sore. I do know that my head hit the pavement and slid a little bit, and the marks on the helmet back this up. It's all on the face shield, too-- thank god for full-face helmets. I suspect I'll be sore later.

The bike? I probably could have ridden it home, except that the shifter and left footpeg are broken off. There's a pretty decent amount of plastic damage on the left side, and I'm sure it will all be covered by insurance. I'll take better pictures when Steven comes this afternoon to tow it to the shop.

I figure since you're always posting about your pet peeves, I thought I'd share one with you. For whatever reason, everytime you post an image, you choose awful layout every time. It seems that you're using align=left for some strange reason. I have to admit I've giggled more than once when you've peeved about how poorly a photo was taken when the layout is even more ghastly:

I'm glad you're OK!

And, y'know, I'm not generally very superstitious, but have you considered maybe avoiding motorized vehicles for awhile? ;)

I'm actually voting for stress headache. It's really extremely minor, and I don't have any of the other symptoms.

Stop. Having. Accidents.

Thank you.

(Glad things are virtually okay, though.)

Hmmm. I shall see if the blessing for safe riding I received from the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence is shareable over the internet. I'm pretty sure it is. I mean, the Spirit of the Holy Dingo is strong and handy like that.

Poor you and poor bike! Get both better soon.

Ouch. I'm glad you wear a full-face helmet -- I was shocked to see many people back east riding in t-shirts and no helmet at all. Are they hoping to be maimed or killed?

Heal soon, and watch out for idiot drivers.

Killed. It saves money all around. Instead of a couple hundred K of med care, all they have to do is hose off the interstate.

OK, Patti. You have had your fair share of accidents when on that bike. You're only required to have one, ya know. (Going by the axiom that there are two types of riders, those who have fallen and those who are going to fall.) You're completely blowing my polyanna viewpoint that I've fallen once, so I'm done. So stop it, K? LOL

I am also horrified at athe riders, particularly scooter riders here in Austin, that ride in shorts, t-shirts, and flip flops. Gah! There are going to be some very scarred and maimed people walking around in a few years. Have you ever seen someone who slid on their back with no jacket? I have. They used a wire brush to try and get the gravel out from under his skin. From the looks of it, it didn't help much. And ya know... I've tried to use helmets that are not full face, but I hate getting smacked in the face with bugs. It really hurts. Not to mention that my Rx glasses don't do much to keep the wind out of my eyes. So even in 108 degree weather, i'll be in a jacket and helmet.

I'm really glad you're ok. Boy... that's one gorgeous bike! :)Yummy!
