Before I go to bed, two amusing bits from SFGate today:

Nursing home sex no longer a touchy subject

Clamping down on pampering when money is tight

The nursing home piece doesn't have a lot of substance, but I'm glad to see it talked about. The piece on pampering just makes me ill. Where did they find so many spoiled brats? Since when is a pedicure a necessity of life?

I made a slightly modified version of the Bacon Explosion for dinner tonight. It was pretty much exactly what you would expect from reading the recipe.

Progress on the countertop is slow but steady. I pretty much have all my ducks in a row, and I broke down and bought backerboard for the tile, but my shoulders have a relatively low tolerance for power tools. A cordless screwdriver with a built-in light at the tip is god's gift to power tools, though.

My favorite: "One thing I'm skimping on is the tips. I used to give $10, now I give $5."

I tip $5 for my $12 haircuts at Supercuts. This guy is a jerk.

clamping down on pampering incluces fewer brazilian waxes, according to salon. http://www.salon.com/mwt/feature/2008/12/11/bush_back/

Pedicures are only a necessity if you can't do your own toes. It actually is harder than you think.

Either you're being silly, or we have very different definitions of necessity. The number of pedicures I've had in my life is vanishingly close to zero, and yet I seem to be surviving just fine.

Food, clean water, clothing, shelter... those things are necessities. Facials, haircuts, pedicures? Not so much.

Didn't you get your toes done in the runup to sabyl's wedding?

Maybe. I wasn't talking about a full pedicure, though. I just don't liike my toenails poking me..... or breaking off because they are toolong.

Am I seriously the first one to comment on the headline itself, "Nursing home sex no longer a touchy subject"? Taken alone, it's just too cute.

I noticed it too. The SFGate editors seem to like to slip puns like that into the mix.

I was stopped by:
A recent purchase: a diaphanous black tunic with lettuce trim and multiple layers of fabric by Vivian Chan which Stamets bought for $900 in Australia.
Lettuce trim? Is this garment stored in the refrigerator? Can it be worn more than once?

It's what priests say when they pray over a haircut. "Lettuce trim."

I have to say, I love bacon and I love sausage, but that looks like too much. However, if you liked it, I bet you'd like a dish they serve in Hawaii for breakfast. I forget what it's called, but it was basically a plate full of hash browns, cheddar cheese, and bacon scrambled together.
