Subject:Need bay area weather help

I rented a Sigma 800mm lens for a week, because I found a screamin' deal on the rental. One of the things that I absolutely must do with it is get a good photo of the moon.

Unfortunately, the weather in Oakland hasn't cooperated thus far. My plan for tonight is to drive to wherever I can find the clearest sky so that I can get a good picture. I may get lucky and get clear air at home, any thoughts on where I should head?

I had an amazing opportunity on the way home last night but, alas, no camera.
A gigantic full moon behind a neighbor's opaque balcony glass. Wow!

I can only think of south bay. And not because I live down in this suburbia land. But there is less fog to worry about. It did downpour last night but I believe it is supposed to be clear tonight.

Can you find timely satellite cloud-cover pictures/info on the web and make a decision on where to go based on that?

Yeah, that's what I expect to do. However, it doesn't hurt to have my network of weather spies on alert to send me data.

I also use this site to consider if the following morning might have good sunrise photo opportunities. I look for seeing conditions that are poor (some clouds) but not entirely blocked out (e.g. fog) as that tends to produce the most interesting sunrise photos.

I just got back from Uncle Bud's hut. Last night the moon was amazing, 11,300 feet above sea level with a cloudless sky, 90 miles from any serious population centers. Two of the guys went skiing under the moonlight, it was that bright out. Unfortunately, I didn't have a tri-pod.

Well, if you were here you could've just used his 400mm and 2x teleconverter.
