Subject:Thinking aloud about WSOP plans
Time:02:50 pm
I'm going to be in Vegas on Friday June 4 for TARGET, and Friday the 11th through Sunday the 13th for the womens event. Last year I did something similar, and I stayed the week in-between and worked from Vegas.

I may do the same thing this year, but I'm also contemplating taking the whole week off and maybe playing a couple of tournaments. The lineup for the week is:

Sat 6/5: $1000 Nolimit Holdem
Sat 6/5: $1500 2-7 Nolimit Draw Lowball
Sun 6/6: $10K Stud-8
Mon 6/7: $1500 6-handed Nolimit Holdem
Tue 6/8: $5000 Nolimit Holdem
Wed 6/9: $2000 Limit Holdem
Thu 6/10: $1500 PLO
Thu 6/10: $1500 7-card Stud
Fri 6/11: $1000 Ladies Nolimit Holdem
Fri 6/11: $2500 6-handed Limit Holdem
Sat 6/12: $1000 Nolimit Holdem
Sat 6/12: $10K Omaha-8

So the $1K nolimit on the 5th is going to be the usual clusterfuck. I'm not wild about the idea of playing eight-million-person tournaments, but doing one of them might not be horrible.

Sunday the 6th is uninteresting to me. My short-handed nolimit game isn't practiced enough for me to want to play on the 7th. The 8th is above my bankroll.

The $2K limit on the 9th would be interesting. I'm not a PLO player, but could find interest in the stud tournament on the evening of the 10th. Friday the 11th is spoken for, and hopfully Saturday and Sunday as well.

So, lessee... $5500. I'm not sure I'd want to invest that much of my bankroll in big-buyin tournaments, but maybe.

That looks like a pretty interesting vacation, I guess. I could use the off-days for satellites, socializing, whatever. Thoughts?

On thing to be aware of is the $1k event is a 4 day, really 5 day event since there are two day 1s. If you are planning to be there all week, it shouldn't be an issue though.

I haven't been to Vegas for WSOP events, but if it's anything like the cardrooms down here before a major event, then your satellites are going to be far worse a clusterfuck than just buying in for say $1k. In which case I'd say just jump in with both feet to the actual tournament. (You know better than I, of course)

How is your deuce-7 game? I've only played it limit. NL looks hella scary, but it might be a lot of fun, actually!

Six handed NL is hate! Arg! But there is still a lot of time to get some practice in and brush up on strategy. That is a game that I use to rat hole with when things are slow online. =x

Have you been on the helicopter tour? At night it is completely amazing.

WSOP satellites are a profit center unto themselves, and the satellites are pretty well run. I treat WSOP satellites as their own little events rather than thinking of them as ways to get into bigger tournaments.

My nolimit 2-7 game is nearly nonexistent. I can play limit somewhat competently, but I know from playing a little bit of limit A-5 that limit and nolimit are very different.

At this point, I'm totally uninterested in being a tourist in Las Vegas. I've probably spent at least a year of my life there, and I mostly hate the place.

I knew something was missing. On the schedule you posted I don't see anything for HORSE or HOSE! Does it still exist as an event?

I'm not big on the tourism myself, and the shopping isn't impressive to me. I'd have no issue sitting at a more upscale bar for a few hours yapping with other people and talk about what they are doing there...if I was single *cringe*

2-7 is crazy fun when/if you are up for bluffing! Position and betting considerations are just like NLHE, and just try to get as heads up as possible. I think they still have good games over at UB to get a practice feel. I really think you could do that game.

Do you play other table games or are you just interested in the poker variants?

I only posted about a week and a half of the full schedule. www.wsop.com and look under schedules for the full thing.

I play some video poker, but rarely table games. I'll have lots of friends in town during that time, so it's not like I can't find plenty of things to occupy myself.

OK well for sure I'd love to hear some trip reports about live horse or hose sats/tourneys if you're up for doing them. IIRC you had a super-good run last year at Stars or maybe it was the year before. (Time flies!)

And I still think 2-7 would be a money basket for you. :) If you can navigate a horse game with good results, there is something about it where having to steer through it is kind of similar and plays different from A-5.
