Tonight I cooked brussels sprouts. Whoever first concluded that these thing are edible was sorely mistaken. Bleah!

On the other hand, fich just mentioned HoHos to me. The very thought of eating one was well and truly disgusting. I've gotten so out of the habit of eating factory food that it's hard to imagine wanting to do it.

12 weeks, though approximately three weeks of that was "diet vacation" where I ate pretty much whatever I wanted within reason and didn't track what I ate. What the picture doesn't show is that as of this morning, I'm 25% of the way to my goal. The goal was sort of arbitrarily chosen, and at the same time it's a reasonable one. When I get there, I'll take a look around and see what I want to do next.

I think I'll celebrate with a glass of ice wine.

We also had Brussel Sprouts with dinner. If not cooked right they can be bitter and taste awful but interesting if well done.

When I cook them, I halve them and saute them in olive oil, then add a little balsamic vinegar and Parmesan.

Yes, this, perhaps with some slivered toasted almonds. Or steamed whole, like cauliflower, but that's trickier; you have to get them at just the right ripeness.

Here's the recipe I use as a base when I make brussel sprouts:

Is there a reason there is no Y-axis label and range indication on your graph? And no explanation either?

I thought it was pretty clear without.

Interesting how the pattern is scallops.
ummm...scallops. in butter.

I'm down 25lbs in about a year...and would like to lose 25 more.

are you following a specific diet plan?

I hate brussel sprouts too.

The first big uptick is after a two-week break wherein I ate pretty much anything I wanted. I expected about what I got. The second one was when I started taking an OTC medicine that made me retain water. I think the third one was basically PMS water.

"Eat food, not too much, mostly plants." I'm buying and cooking almost all of my own food (and turning into a Berkeley Bowl junkie who comes away with a big haul of organic produce every week), and recording everything I eat. I don't have any off-limits foods except artificial sweeteners, but I'm doing my best to avoid HFCS as well. I cook with butter (and make my own sometimes) and eat real sugar, just in moderation. I have a daily calorie goal with a loose +/-250 tolerance.

In short, I've reshaped my eating habits and restricted myself to a lower-than-maintenance calorie consumption.

I'm using the FatSecret.com website and the associated Calorie Counter app for Android.

Michael Pollan is basically my new food god.
