Subject:That woke me up!
Time:02:17 pm
If you've ever slept with me (and almost none of you have), you know that I completely suck at getting up in the mornings. Most days I can hit my snooze button for at least 30-45 minutes, and sometimes for two hours or more. I just don't do mornings very well.

Yesterday I got a Philips Wake-Up Light.. I set it so that the light started coming on at 8 a.m., and birds started chirping at 8:30. My regular alarm was set to go off at 8:45. I then proceeded to work half the night. I sent out important work email at 2:30 AM, then tried to get to sleep. It was probably 3:30 or so before I actually nodded off.

This morning at 8:30, I woke to birds chirping. I was actually wide awake, with no desire to hit the snooze button or go back to sleep.

One night is a small sample, but I'm optimistic.

I suspect the 5 hour night will catch up with you eventually! However, it sounds like you lost only half an hour to getting up instead of 2 or more, which is pure win, AND it seems like it was less unpleasant, which is pure win.

People who get up slowly sharing my bed drive me batty -- if I'm still trying to sleep. I say I don't like getting up, but I get up quickly. I want to set my alarm as late as possible, to get as much sleep as possible, so any dawdling is against my primary goals in the morning. (But often they don't notice my alarm going off and my getting up, if that's what happens first; it's half a dozen or a dozen beeps and I'm out of there.)

cool!
i've got a 'true color' light on a timer that goes off about half an hour before my alarm. it totally helps by being very bright. and i think having it go off at about the same time helps with my internal scheduling.

Those would never work for me, I sleep under the covers.

Luckily I have a hard limit for when I need to be at work and with two alarms, can actually get up and be on time (barely) each day. But I do commonly get to sleep around 3:00AM and have to be up by 8:30AM if I want to be on time. The eight minute commute is a bloody life-saver.

My snooze button goes off an avg of 6 times before I wake up. The only time I can actually do math, calculating to the minute when I need to jump out of bed at 5:40a M-F.

If I've had something resembling a reasonable amount of sleep, say 6+ hours, it wakes me right up. If I've had less than that, it wakes me up but I'm able to ignore it and go back to sleep.

Looks like it could be awesome. From seeing your post to one-click buy-it-now-and-deliver-today was under 60 seconds. Curious to hear how it's working after the first morning.

Now that you have used it for several weeks, is it still working as well for you?

Pretty much, yeah. If I'm severely short on sleep then I still have trouble waking up, but otherwise I'm usually awake before my backup loud-noise alarm goes off.
