Collection of Miscellany

One of the joys of being a homeowner is that you get oodles and poodles of mortgage refinance and home equity offers-- my current average is four per week, I think. There's clearly stiff competition in this market, and the ads go to some lengths to grab you.

Today I opened an envelope and a folded-up newspaper clipping fell out. There was a yellow sticky on it, and handwritten on the sticky was a note that said, "Patricia, Call! This saved me thousands! J" The headline on the alleged clipping was, "Homeowner Beware" and the subhead was, "Wow! Was I being ripped off! on Mortgage and Credit Card interest charges"

Do people really fall for this crap?

Sign spotted near my office recently:

I went to my doctor yesterday to follow up on the emergency room visit of a couple of weeks ago. One of the reasons I like him is that he asked me right off the bat, "Do you want to just have the fucker taken out?" Today I had an ultrasound, and I got to see pictures of my gallbladder. Whee!
