Long day!

This morning I got up early so that I could drive to Merced and pick up kittens. Kittens! They're utterly adorable, but man is the central valley hot. And that was a lot of driving. We got home around 5:30 this evening, and the kitties are now curled up downstairs in their boxcar-sized loft-enhanced carrier. I took the door off so they could hang out in there as much as they wanted, and come out on their own terms. They have food, water, toys, and a litter box in there, so it's a good place to chill. (Did I mention the carrier was huge? It took quite a lot of wrestling to get it into the back seat of my car.)

It was a Big Kitty Adventure of a day for them! So far, they don't seem to be too wild about this big city thing, but they'll come 'round.

After I got the kitties settled, I walked over to the Eat Real festival for dinner. I had a tamale from a taco truck, strawberry agua fresca, a cupcake, and best of all roast pork on flatbread with several relishes to choose from. Nom nom nom.

That last item came from ChopBar, the restaurant that's opening in my building this week. When I ordered, I teased the owner that if it wasn't good we were going to run them out of the building, and I'm very happy to report that I'm letting them stay. The pork was tasty, the relishes were intriguing and extremely yummy, and the flatbread was cooked to perfection. They roasted a whole pig today, and they're doing it again tomorrow. And now, I can't wait for the restaurant to open.

I'm planning to go back to the festival for lunch tomorrow. It was quite awesome, and it's wonderful to see Jack London Square be so lively.

Oh! I also discovered that my favorite Korean BBQ "taco truck" isn't out of business after all. I used to have lunch at Seoul on Wheels about once a week, but then they shut down. It seems that they're back in business, but now operating out of Emeryville. Yay!
