Why it's sometimes useful to have me around

I was in my friends' motorcycle shop this morning to talk to one of them about a part. The shop has been sharing an internet connection with a neighboring business, but are in the process of splitting it. While I was there today, someone hired by the neighboring business came in to do the technical work to separate the networks.

He had some trouble with it, and couldn't get their computers to work properly. He made a couple of phone calls and tried a couple of things, but was scratching his head.

While he was on the phone, I went over to one of the computers and started poking around. "Aha! I see the problem." I asked the guy for the router password, and he gave me something that was totally wrong, then went out to make another phone call. No worries. I hacked the router, reconfigured it, and verified that everything was working.

When he came back in he started to say that he needed to try... "Oh, don't worry about it. I fixed it already."

He looked relieved.

And then I pulled one of the owners aside. "You need a better router password."
