Katrina was a pretty clear reminder for me that I could be subject to a pretty serious natural disaster at any moment, and unlike hurricane victims, there's no way to get out of the way of an earthquake. So I've been reinforcing my emergency supplies. I now have a hand-crank radio. There are two power-failure lights in the loft. Though I rarely eat canned goods on a day-to-day basis, I stocked up last week. And I'm adding ten more gallons of water to my current stash-- the buckets are in the bathtub at this very moment, waiting to be filled.
And now, time to sleep.
