I just finished a few hours of labor on my s00er seekrit BARGE giveaways for this year. It turned out to be a lot more work, both for creative work and manual labor, than I anticipated, but I think I'm happy with the result. Tomorrow I drop this part of it off at the vendor for finishing touches, and voila. I hope it all works out well. (And no, I'm not saying what it is. Not yet.)
Speaking of vendors, I learned an important lesson: the web is not always the best place to find what you're looking for. I spent a lot of time looking around for vendors for this specific item, and found several... but they all wanted to charge me a lot extra for relatively limited personalization, and they had long lead times. I eventually slapped myself on the forehead when I realized there were three different vendors of what I wanted within a few blocks of my house. I called one of them and found out that I could do my own personalization and have as much as I wanted for free, the unit cost would be cheaper, and I could have one-day turnaround. Sweet!
The 365 Main fiasco was really sort of funny today. Yes, LJ was down for hours, but I found more than a wee bit of schadenfreude in that.
