I picked up Booh from the shop today. He's all back together after the accident, except that they somehow managed to forget to order a mirror. It's no big deal, and the current mirror is functional but scuffed, so I'll just slap the new one on when it shows up.
When I left the shop I started the bike and just let it run for a couple of minutes. I'm glad I did, because I wound up with billowing clouds of smoke coming from between my legs. Holy fuck! I turned the bike off and quickly hopped off, then turned around to shop dude who was standing beside me.
I was worried, because the radiator had been slightly damaged in the accident and we decided not to replace it. The mechanic came out and took a look, and discovered that it was only oil that they'd spilled on the motor. In fact, what had happened is that they'd somehow managed to spray oil while checking it, and not cleaned it up. They also hadn't taken the bike outside and started it up apparently, which is just sloppiness on their part. Overall I'm not impressed.
Much to my surprise, I'm finding myself a bit skittish about riding. Maneuvering through the hellish bay bridge traffic on the way home tonight seems to have helped some, but I'm still finding myself stopping and turning extra-cautiously. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it caught me by surprise.
