At the risk of offering a spoiler to those who aren't overeducated, Jesus dies on the cross at the end of the show. It is, as you would expect, a passionate and dramatic moment. After he cries out, "god, why have you forsaken me?" the whole theater goes silent.
That's the way it's supoosed to work, at least. At this performance, as soon as it got quiet, someone's phone started bellowing out that goddamned Nokia ringtone that we all know and hate.  We were seated in loge left, and I'm pretty sure the culprit was front right orchestra, but the sound was audible through the entire theater.
 Actually it's a very pretty song named Gran Vals written by a Spanish guitarist named Francisco Tarrega.
