That's why the motto in our house is: "Your best buys are rarely at Fry's! (Except in case of ridiculous pricing error in your favor.)"

Dan Ariely, author of Predictably Irrational would make a case for that not being stupid, but being a way to sell 4-packs. He has a very similar case (with subscriptions to The Economist) where a pricing structure rather like that gets people who would otherwise buy the cheapest option to buy the most expensive one, as in "I really only want one flash drive, but four is so much of a better deal than two, I guess I'll get four," and missing the fact that four is not a hugely better deal than one, and when you buy the four, you've spent $51 that you wouldn't otherwise have spent.

It's a good point in general, but I don't give Fry's that much credit for rational thinking. In fact, I suspect they just had the 2-pack mis-marked.

I do believe that you've found a pricing arbitrage in the market; how you use this evil knowledge is at your own discretion.

Basically the only time I bought something from Fry's, I paid for a Duron 1.1 and got a Duron 1.2 Ghz. Yay!

Their price labeling is often horrid. I'd almost be willing to bet that if you took those up to the register, 2 out of 3 would be mispriced on the package.

I got my 16GB flash drive from NewEgg for $20 AR...keep an eye on it, the current rebate is a combo deal, but they often have a straight up rebate instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233042

Here's the 8GB version for $10 AR: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233037

They also have larger drives available: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=corsair+flash&x=0&y=0
