Subject:Find me a wine rack
Time:08:58 pm

My scotch collection is in a vintage medical cabinet that looks pretty much but not quite exactly like the picture on the left. The picture on the right is a badly-lit photo of the interior.

I want to put a wine rack on top, but I want something that will do justice to the funkiness of the cabinet-- something whimsical, unusual, silly, or that otherwise has character. If I giggle like jnala every time I look at it then I've found the perfect thing.

Ideally it would hold around a dozen bottles of wine, but fewer is OK-- panache trumps capacity. The top of the cabinet is 29" wide, and I forgot to measure the depth but it's probably about 12-14".

Got a suggestion?

That's cool! But it probably loses its effect when it's at or above eye-level. :-(

Not being helpful at all, I'm sure, but WTF are all those bottles doing in that "scotch cabinet?"

My scotch cabinet is proudly empty at all times.

I love scotch, but I drink very little... especially when I'm at home.

Maybe one of the lighter Islays-- a Bowmore, a Bruichladdich, or a Bunnahabhain. I'm not sure, though, since I don't drink much Highland Park.

I would second Bowmore or Bunnahabhain, and maybe throw Oban in there for consideration.

Hm.

Go buy a hundred feet of hemp rope, take a bottle of scotch, and hand them to the guy who did the rigging in the naughty pictures you posted a while back, and ask for a wine rack and an empty scotch bottle in return.

It seems like it would be simple enough to use rope to frame up a wine rack. If rope isn't sturdy enough, perhaps use some embroidery rings from the craft store. Anyone who was a Boy Scout ought to know enough knots to get something workable together.

This one is interesting:

Fishies!!! Thinks it's a religious reference but I was thinking poker fishies and you used to be into fishies:

More fishies:

Fits the feel of the scotch cabinet I think but pretty pricey:

Not sure how they would work together with your cabinet but kinda fun :

The last one can be bought from Amazon UK, but I didn't check the original link I gave you. It looks like the site that was selling it isn't any longer. Not sure if Amazon UK will ship to US or if you have a friend in London who can ship to you. They aren't expensive. Called Kimco Somersault wine rack I believe. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kimco-Ltd-SomerSault-Range/dp/B001E5CDR8/ref=cl_tr_dp

This might work -- the dimensions are about right and the color and style are similar:

From the same source, there's a winerack in the form of a riddling rack (used in Champagne production). It keeps with the "antique" theme:

There are two or three Society bottlings in there, I think.
