Subject:Dear lazyweb: rsync equivalent for Windows?
Time:03:23 pm
I need to do the equivalent of a Unix rsync from several computers to one central server. There are a handful of directories that I want to maintain. Mostly I need one-way synchronization (make sure the server copy has the newest stuff), but in one or two cases I'd like two-way synchronization.

The utility that I've used in the past, which is called something like copy2synchronizer, sort of worked OK but was less than fully impressive.

Anyone have a recommendation?

Is there a cygwin port of rsync?

Yes, but I hate cygwin with the fire of a thousand white hot suns.

OK, not that much, and I haven't used it in a few years, but I remember it being extremely annoying.

Robocopy.
You can download it for free from Microsoft.

Made by Microsfot: SyncToy

I've used this to copy tens of thousands of files upwards of 50gb. It works just great.

From the site:

Important NAS and SyncToy 2.0 Information
Please note that there are known issues when using SyncToy 2.0 with a Home NAS. When using a NAS, there is a chance of file corruption. This issue will be fixed in an upcoming release. Unfortunately there are no known workarounds for this issue with SyncToy 2.0.

Isn't that like saying: We'll fuck up the only thing you could possibly use this application for?

If 'a chance' is enough to spook you, then don't use it. It's worked fine for me, no corruption to date.

Setting up a samba share doesn't actually copy files.
