We actually use a white pages directory this afternoon. While in a restaurant. The guy behind the counter was baffled by the request at first, but came up with it in seconds.

Another relevant question would be whether or not your phone book was the most recent one published. Mine always is.

Interesting. I realized that we have had both a white and yellow pages here for over a year... in the back of a drawer. Google is my phonebook now, it seems.

Yellow pages was in the car, sometime in the last six months I'm sure. I keep a small phone book there (because I'm not a smart phone/iphone type.) White pages was actually yesterday - I *knew* the number was listed, but two different web searches failed to find it, so I got up off my ass and pulled out the real phone book. (And yes, it was there.)

The question is...why are they still fucking distributing them on Dead TREES? That has to be the hugest waste of energy and resources I've ever seen. If you want a printed yellow pages, you should have to opt-in.

I'm using one right now. My computer monitor's stand doesn't adjust as high as I'd like it to. :)

I used the yellow pages while staying in a hotel room. That's the only time I ever use them.

It might be interesting to see responses with the ages of the responders. It seems like we older folks might be more inclined to use the PB than those I just chased off my (mythical) grass.

Sort of related to this is the Journal of the American Statistical Association (the flagship journal of the profession in the USA) that is sitting in my office.

I started getting it when I joined the A.S.A. in 1997 or so when I was in grad school. In 2002 we were given an cheaper option to have online access rather than paper copies, which I opted for. My colleague just retired and had a complete set from 1975-2009 that he wasn't taking home with him. It seemed wrong to throw them away, so they are in my office now.

They finally stopped printing class schedules and the campus directory of phone numbers on dead trees this past year. I don't think any of the students had looked at the hard copies in years.

I assume you mean for the intended purpose of looking up information. I often use the phone books that are delivered to the doorstep other purposes (starting BBQ fires, raising up a potted plant, etc.)
