I polished off a great book while I traveled-- Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex. If you haven't read it, you should. It's a tremendous wealth of information packaged up in a book that's terribly entertaining, and it's much more of a page-turner than whatever Dan Brown just published. I give it my highest recommendation.

While I enjoyed Bonk, and there's certainly lots of interesting information in it, I found myself in substantial agreement with Greta Christina's review; Mary Roach's attitude towards the subject make many of her attempts to be entertaining more irritating than entertaining (though others are laugh-out-loud funny).

I listened to Bonk and didn't read the cited review, but I agree entirely with your summary of it.

Dunno. Everything I've seen about Mary Roach has to do with going for the cheap laugh. She knows her stuff, I guess, but does she really add anything to it besides packaging it for ha-has?

I bought it but couldn't get into it. I did enjoy Stiff, a bit more than Bonk...
