All I can say is it's a good thing I can play nolimit tournaments in my sleep. I didn't look at the structure before I bought in-- it's a smallish buyin tournament and it starts at 7, how late can it go? 11? Midnight? HA! We finally chopped it at about 4 a.m., and part of the reason that I agreed to the deal is that I was so tired that I could barely see my cards.
The field wasn't too tough. In fact, I saw several mistakes of a magnitude that I could barely fathom-- after a significant preflop raise/call, someone bet 80K on an unthreatening flop, then folded for another 19K all-in. Another player had 1600 in for a big blind, then failed to call 700 more from an all-in. There was an insane amount of limping.
I feel good about my play. At one point I had the #2 stack with three tables left, and the #1 stack got moved two places to my right. He was being pushy and aggressive, and I decided I wanted to put him On Notice in a serious way. We got into a hand where I was on the button with AQs. The flop came something like 773, and he called my bet. I checked behind on a turn of a king. The river was a jack, which also made a flush possible, and he bet a significant but not crippling amount, maybe 20% of my stack. I called, and he mucked. "You don't even have to show it."
"Oh, but I will." I turned over no pair, and he looked taken aback. Point made, and he stopped fucking with me. I do so love it when a plan comes together.
It feels good to be back in the groove.
But now, it's 5:15 a.m. and I am severely, massively sleep-deprived. I'm taking an Ambien, crashing, and sleeping until I wake up. 'night all
