Subject:Why do christians do this?

I moderate the atheists only tribe on Tribe.net. The site is mostly dead, but every now and then I get a new membership request for the tribe. Here's the one that I got today:
I have no need to join your pathetic group but instead to say that you spend to much time skimming through the bible instead of actually reading it and making some childish page that no one really see's for your own amusement. But every question you put up all ten of them are flawed. Because i study the bible and if you were to ask a christian just one of those questions they would probably look at you with a puzzled look because of how you try and interpret the bible. You chose not to believe in God because you think this world happened by accident and that accident that came from nothing gave life to everything and to everything a purpose. But if you actually stopped feeding people bull crap science and archeologists can both tell you with proof that the events that happened in the bible actually happened. Science is made up of hypothesis and guessing every ten or so years they come up with a new hypothesis that contradicted the last one. Jesus is the way the truth and the life and no one come to the father except through him. I have said what i need to and im never logging on this childish site ever again.
What I don't get is this: if your belief in something is really so strong, why does it matter to you if I think it's a fairy tale?

And on the same subject, I came across this speech from Nate Phelps the other day. Nate is the son of Fred Phelps, head of the Westboro Baptist Church. WBC is the morons who go out and picket everything in site-- Matthew Shepard's funeral, soldiers' funerals, a showing of Fiddler on the Roof in San Francisco...

I'm partial to the theory that the Phelps clan business model is suing people for violating their civil rights. It seems to fit with the facts pretty well, plus it's amusing in a sick way.

I so totally fail to understand anything about the religious impulse (by no means limited to Christianity). To the point where I can't state my doubts or questions without sounding snide (which is, at least, a fair representation of my internal attitude). Which may be exactly what's happening, in reverse, to Christians like the one above; he so totally fails to comprehend that he can't talk about us except as caricature.

(Religion is the compulsion to have "an answer", regardless of truth, to things that aren't even questions.)

Because if you don't believe then you won't go to heaven?

And what fun would heaven be without Patti?

They are just trying to save your soul by insulting your intelligence.

Because the bible, especially the New Testament, instructs people to evangelize others. It's a big part of why there are missions scattered around the world.

And it's also the same reason the barge list is what it is and there are political, religious, and philosophical debates throughout the internet. People like to argue, particularly about things they are less sure about. Nobody argues that the sun rises in the east.

The sun does not rise in the east.

The Earth rotates.

It makes it look like the sun is rising.

There was an article recently about how they picketed the San Diego Comic Convention... for all of 30 minutes or so.
