Subject:OK, now I'm really worried

I've taken to doing almost all of my shopping at the Berkeley Bowl. I know their hours by heart.

Every single thing in the two heavy bags of groceries that I bought today is organic, save for one small bunch of oregano.

I've decided that I'll be vegetarian for a week. I'm maybe two tablespoons of butter away from the week being all-out vegan. Oh, and I'm making the butter myself, starting with fresh organic cream.

I've definitely caught The Berkeley.

West. It's much more convenient for me.

BZZZZT.

No real Berkeleyan goes there. That's for all the out-of-townies (like yourself) who can't bear to be further than a tenth of a mile from an Interstate.

Until you buy your organic oregano at the ORIGINAL Bowl you'll never be (sniff) one of us.

I [heart] the West Berkeley Bowl. It has made the original (well, replacement original) Berkeley Bowl so much more navigable.

On a completely tangential note, I won't be coming to JS:TO on Saturday because of a combination of Jewish holidays and scheduling conflicts. Alan will bring wordweaverlynn instead.

But organic just tastes better. It's not just about The Berkeley.

I heard an article on NPR the other day that it's also more nutritious. They focused on strawberries grown in the central valley, and compared organic and chemical-using farms that were next to each other. The organic strawberries won pretty convincingly.

I think it varies a lot by the actual food. Strawberries are clearly and obviously better organic. I can't tell the difference with carrots.

I can't either, but I could tell the difference between home grown and store bought carrots.

Kim: "Maybe we should try to be vegan or go organic."

Eric: "Maybe you shouldn't read so much of Patti's blog."

Sigh.

HA!

I would never make it as a vegan or even a vegetarian, though it's amusing to do it for a few days at a time.

Otherwise known in my house as "Crap! I didn't get any cooking done! I guess it's cereal for breakfast, PB&J for lunch and popcorn for dinner today!"

To be fair, it's dry, air-popped popcorn. I love, love, love crunchy carbs. With maybe orange-juice popsicles for dessert.
