A few months ago I was thinking about Folsom Street Fair, and trying to find a relatively unique way to tell the stories of the fair in photos. I hit upon the idea of doing it from ground level and trying to tell stories using the footwear that went by.
I've only started looking through the images, but I knew when I shot it that this one would be one of my favorites. A slim, older transvestite dressed in all black stopped right in front of my lens as she slipped off a shoe to rest her feet. I snapped the picture quickly, and prayed to the photo gods that it would turn out OK.
