Subject:Help a friend find a movie
Time:10:39 am
I got this request from an old high school friend today:
Some of you know I teach OWL (a relationship and sexuality curriculum). This weekend is our second OWL weekend in the series which focuses on GLBTQ issues and relationships. I am looking for a movie to show in our free time that focuses in a positive way on GLBTQ relationships or shows growth toward a positive and understanding relationship...it can be between GLBTQ folks or between someone who is GLBTQ and someone who is hetero. The audience is junior high age, so hopefully no R rated movies.
Anyone have ideas for her?

I am surprised that "The incredibly true adventures of two girls in love" was rated R. Maybe there was more nakedness than I remember? Same with "But I'm a Cheerleader".

"Chutney Popcorn" was fun, although I can't figure out what it was rated (maybe it didn't get general release?)

"But I'm a Cheerleader" was an adorable movie; it's the only one I could think to suggest. There's no graphic nudity or sex scenes (although there's implied sex and masturbation in several scenes), but there's a lot of coarse language and innuendo, which I believe is what earned it the R rating. IMO it's acceptable for a high school audience, but probably not junior high (certainly not sixth graders) due to the language and innuendo.
