I probably could have gotten a slightly better deal than I did, but I had a splitting headache, a bit of a head cold, and traffic was horrendous. I actually got there after they closed, but after it taking over an hour to get from my office through Berkeley, I pulled over and called the sales manager. "Hi. I'm coming up to buy the car if we can make a deal. Can we pre-negotiate?" We got within a few hundred bucks of each other, and he agreed to stick around past closing to finish the deal.
On the way home, I took the top down (though it was really too cold for that), and drove through the Port of Oakland. At 11 p.m., it's essentially an empty road with good visibility. I, umm, familiarized myself with the acceleration characteristics of the car. That was merely a safety precaution, of course.
I think I've figured out a little bit about why it has such low mileage-- the last registration sticker expired in 2007. I suspect it sat in a garage for a few years.
